On Monday 5th October, we had a visit from Chris Cook who is an Olympic and Commonwealth Games star! His visit was to launch our new and exciting ‘Inspire’ Project. The aim of the project to to help children realise they can achieve their ambitions and dreams and entails a range of different self confidence, resilliance and emotional wellbeing activities.
The day began with an assembly led by Chris Cook. He told us how hard he had to work to achieve his dream of becoming an Olympic swimmer and it certainly wasn’t easy! He then visited each class to give the children the opportunity to have a closer look at his medals and ask questions.
In EYFS, the children loved Chris talking about his medal had how he won it. The children talked about what they would like to do amade nd made thier own medals.
In Class 2, they then learned about people who inspired them and the children made their own gold medals. Each medal had their career dreams on. We have some ambitious children with dreams to be scientists, pilots, runners, teachers and even Batman to name a few! They also learned about comfort zones and how it might feel to to step out of your comfort zone.
Class 3 and Class 4 thoroughly enjoyed their session with Chris Cook. The children responded really well to the idea of going to your ‘stretch zone’ to challege yourself. They also grasped an understanding of resiliance in that you are not always successful when you try something new but that is not a reason to give up. They were highly reflective about how they could achieve thier own dreams and ambitions.
In the afternoon, each class carried out learning tasks which were designed to enable the children to stretch out of their comfort zone. Some challenges were very challenging but the children worked exceptionally well togther and were deterimed complete every task!
